It shouldn't surprise me anymore

It really shouldn't surprise me when you act so selfishly.
After dealing with you this long I really should know better by now.
Some things have changed sure, I'll give you that
but not this.
You do what you want without consideration of anyone else around you.
You say you are different than the others
but you are not all that different despite what you may have convinced yourself.
I just don't understand you,
guess I never will and I should stop trying to.
But just know that it isn't me you are hurting,
it is the ones who look up to you because they are too innocent to know the difference.
So if you don't want to hang out with them, then by all means don't.
Just please stop promising them that you will.
Stop telling them that you care,
because one day,
they will grow up to learn that your actions speak louder than your words.
It will be you who will have to look into their eyes.
It will be you who will have to justify your priorities.
Luckily for us they will see your misguidance as our steadfastness.
The memories you could have shared with them
will be remembered as memories that were shared with us.
The bond they hold with you will break down over time,
only to strengthen their bond with us.
It doesn't have to be this way you know, all you have to do is start thinking about them....
and less about you...
