2019-Year in Review

Lake Family-Annual Year Re-cap 2019

The past year’s highlight reel includes many family adventures:
  • February-Brandon celebrated his 40th birthday for an extended weekend in North Pole Alaska where we visited Santa’s Workshop, swam in the hot springs despite the subzero temperatures, traveled along the ice highway to see the Alaska pipeline as far north as the Arctic circle, participated in an authentic dogsled and gazed upon the dancing lights through the pleix-glass ceiling of our basecamp igloo.
  • March-Hannah spent 3 days in Disneyland celebrating her 10th birthday with Ommie and Papa discovering a love for roller coasters.
  • April-The family flew to Florida for a week. We swam with manatees, held baby alligators, ziplined, played at the water park and visited Animal Kingdom.
  • June-We camped our way through Shasta National Forest for two weeks chasing waterfalls.  We saw bear foraging in the grass near Lion’s falls, discovered the underground caves of Lava beds, and rafted the Rogue River with the Baker clan.
  • September-Brandon and I flew for a weekend away in Las Vegas to celebrate a 15 year anniversary and the kids received season passes for 2020 to 6 flags from their grandparents which they have already used 5 times!

Individually each of our kids are blossoming into their own passions:

Hannah- is an official tweenie bopper. She loves choir, traded in her Cello for Clarinet, and is excelling in school with math as her favorite subject.  For fun, she reads graphic novels, plays Roblox with bestie Riley, dances away on TikTok, plays Minecraft with her brother, paints on her walls, rides her bike, rocks her new braceface, plays basketball against all the boys at school and steals my phone to chat for hours with friends after school.

Zechariah-Lives and breathes soccer as he played both spring and fall season. He signed up for winter basketball and can be found shooting hoops in the backyard with his sister. He LOVEs to snuggle, is learning to play the violin, helps out with the cooking, reads science books for fun, excels in math, plays FortNite with best friend Mateo and Raphael, does chores (for cash), and questions everything with vibrant curiosity.

Tabitha-Is our resident fashionista. She prefers her hair tied up in bows and buns, plays Roblox with sissy, loves to read everything she can get her hands on, adores animals of all kinds, got a pet parakeet from Mimi, snuggles her kitty and bunny while watching Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir on TV, joined the basketball team at FBC and bridged from Daisy to Brownie in Girl Scouts. She is also known to horde all the candy and recently decided she was big enough for all the roller coasters at six flags.

Then, of course, we parents have been up to a few things as well:

I am 1/2 way done with my Master’s Degree and 2/3 finished with my credential in school administration through Concordia University Irvine while teaching full time at MB as 7/8 math and Leadership/ASB advisor.  I’m still running CanClub Ministry at COCC, and head scoutmaster for the girls’ troop #780.

Brandon has had a rough year battling the idleness of being home alone but has occupied his time with binge-watching sci-fi, playing the newest star wars game on his PS4, restoring the engine of his ’74 Camaro, and leading a recovery class at Bear Creek Church.

That's for us this year. We hope you have made memories worth reflecting in 2019 and have already planned an adventure or two for 2020! We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
