Ageless

Love is like fine wine

With the passing of time
Love evolves in its sweetness

Attraction sees past the wrinkles
And extra pounds brought on by the stressors of life
As each gaze
recalls the youth of its memory

Dinner is enjoyed
in the silent company
Of one another's presence
Words holding little value
As you already know the routine
Of each passing day

Hands interlocked
Become more intimate
Than the passion of a youth's lusts
An embrace more meaningful yet

What was once valuable
Is meaningless
Compared to the wisdoms of truth
Gained from each of life's experiences
Memories become priceless heirlooms

Years together
Can never loose it's sweetness
The taste of such joy can never again
Be brought to its fullness

No one can comprehend
The value of love
Until true love has lasted
through the decades

Until love has traveled
through the stages of life
With one another
Side by side
From childhood, to adulthood
From parenting to grand parenting
And beyond

Together we have always been
Until suddenly
One has passed from arms reach
From this world into the afterlife

The loss of life's partner is devastating
To the survivor
The meaning of life challenged in the very second of love's passing

The survivor alone,
Left to Wait
to be reunited once more
In the presence of the most Holy of Holies.

Dedicated to my dear friend Erma Sue
In the loss of her life partner and love.
